Lunchbox at Great Malvern Priory runs October to April on alternate Thursday lunchtimes, 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm, with music or talk starting at 1 pm.

WestFest West Malvern’s annual all-dayer 2016: 2nd July (Saturday). Arts and crafts, food and drink, kids workshops, street theatre, loads of music.

Spring Garden ShowThree Counties Showground Just south of Malvern. Specific gardening, dogs, ponies, antiques, cars and such shows, plus the usual countryside types. RHS Malvern Spring Festival, in May (2017: 11th to 14th) is the first in the RHS calendar (previously ‘Spring Gardening Show’). Malvern Autumn Show (Gardening and Food, 2017: 23rd/24th Sept) rounds off the season. Also CountryTastic, indoor event day for kids up to 14, 2016: 31st March.

Flea fairs and antique fairs put on at the showground by B2B Events.

There are some leaflets (2009) on walks and cycle rides from Three Counties Showground. Please ask the Showground for these, to encourage them to do more on ‘sustainable tourism’. The showground also contains the National Collection of Perry Pear Trees.

Three Choirs Festival July/August classical music bash, orchestral as well as choral, with maybe a bit of jazz. The oldest musical festival in Europe (noted as a ‘yearly Musical Assembly’ in 1719). Rotates between Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester. 2017: Worcester, 22nd to 29th July. Email:

Worcestershire Literary Festival Events mainly in Worcester but some scattered across the county. 2016: 10th to 19th June.


Gregg's PitBig Apple Weekend. 2016: 8th/9th October. Celebrating the apple harvest and all things apple. Loads of events, around Much Marcle area and wider. There’s usually a bike ride on the Sunday along the Ledbury Cider Trail route .

Blossom time with The Big Apple, Usually first weekend in May (2017: Sunday/Monday 30th April/1st May). Cider tasting at Putley Village Hall, cider and perry trials same weekend.

Daffodil Weekend at Kempley (main link had a serious security issue late Dec. 2016 – auto forwarding to a spoof Flash player install) – guided walks, teas etc. 2017: 18th, 19th March. Also see walks info on Kempley Tardis.

Daffodil Weekend at Dymock. 2016: 26th/27th March. Web info can be difficult to find, but often refreshments at Dymock Parish hall (in the afternoon) a week or a fortnight after Kempley.

Oxenhall Daffodil Teas, south of Kempley. The weekend before or after Kempley. 2016: 19th March, noon to 4.30pm, put on by local Wildlife Trust.

There are various other events during the year at Eastnor Castle.

Much Marcle Steam Rally Rye Meadows, Much Marcle. Includes steam ploughing. 2017: 22nd/23rd July, with local crafts and produce.

Yarkhill Field to Fork Festival. 2017: Saturday 10th June. Celebrating local asparagus, cider and strawberry.

Hellens Manor is an interesting very old manor house, worth a visit by itself – historic but still a family home, in Much Marcle:

The Garden Festival “passion for plants and the planet”. 2017: 10th/11th June.


Bromyard Folk Festival mid-September. 2017: 8th to 10th.

Bromyard International Town Criers Festival 2016: 30th April/1st May.

Bromyard Gala 2017: 24/25th June. Should have some steam attractions.

Bromyard Hop Festival, 2017: 27th August. A Hop Play, horse-drawn vehicle parade, fun fair and other events.

Nozstock Rowden Paddocks, Bromyard, HR7 4LS. 2017: 21st to 23rd July. A range of music, from bluegrass to electronica and beyond. “A festival built from a curious amalgamation of performance, art, electronic supersounds and good old-fashioned guitar-strumming and drum-bashing.”

Worcester Music Festival September. 2017: 15th to 17th. Focus is on promoting local music, but with wider contributions too.

Pershore Plum Festival Main event August Bank Holiday Monday, plus Farmers Market, Town Centre, 10am to 3pm. Also events throughout August. Contact 01386 565373.

Fladbury Walkabout (between Pershore and Evesham). Flower festival, refreshments, boat trips, music and more. 2016: 9th/10th July.

Asparagus Festival Events mainly at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton, east of Evesham, but also elsewhere, late May/early June. 2016: events 23rd April to 21st June. Auction and Festival days.

Tewkesbury Medieval Festival 2016: 9th/10th July.


Newent Onion Fayre takes over the centre of town for the day. The biggest single-day festival in Gloucestershire apparently – there’s music, exhibitions, entertainment, food and drink as well as onion related competitions and displays, etc. 2016: 10th September. Tourist info: 01531 822468.

Linton Music Festival A village in between Newent and Ross has a music festival on the weekend nearest to midsummer day, in the grounds of the Alma Inn. 2017: 7th to 9th July.

Ross-on-Wye Cider Festival at Broome Farm. August/September. 2016: 2nd to 4th September. Due to popularity, book in advance, and/or check website for other possible summer weekend events at Broome Farm.

Ross-on-Wye Beer and Cider Festival (new in 2014) . 2017: 30th April/1st May.

Around Hereford and county

Borderlines Film Festival brings the best of international cinema to Herefordshire. 2017: 24th Feb to 12th March. At The Courtyard and venues in Ledbury, Ross, Gorsley and elsewhere in the county. Phone 01432 344039.

Beer on the Wye, a Hereford Camra event, featuring local cider and perry too. 2017: 7th to 9th July. Riverside Marquee at Hereford Rowing Club, Hereford, HR4 0BE, with camping available ‘next door’.
Down on the Farm Music Festival  Run by Gwatkin Cider, at Abbeydore, 2016: 12th to 14th August. 
Wye Valley River Festival, first ran in 2014, Hereford to Chepstow. “A river carnival with a theatrical twist”. Second festival was in April/ May 2016.
Wye Valley Chamber Music runs some events in Hereford, St Briavels (near Forest of Dean), Much Marcle (Hellens) in September. The connected January Chamber Music Festival (2017: 14th to 22nd January) has been going since 2000. Wye Valley (St Briavels) Music Society calendar may be worth checking out, too.

Herefordshire Art Week, September. 2017: 9th to 17th. Likely to include various galleries in Ledbury such as textile works at Tinsmiths and Weavers Gallery, paintings from Andrea McLean and Valerie McLean; Blue Ginger gallery near Cradley; others with jewellery, furniture, ceramics. Herefordshire Contemporary (craft and design). 2017: 10th to 12th November, new website awaited.

Wyastone Summer Series (June/July). The home of Nimbus Records, the concert hall hosts classical and other music. We understand that it is a fantastic setting near the Wye. Near Monmouth.


Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival, 2017: 8th to 10th September. There’s a connected foodie walk – Magnalonga in August (2017: 13th) – an 8 mile walk through the countryside surrounding Ludlow with a course of food at each stop (vegetarian option on request).
