Malvern

Malvern Walking Festival dates etc. are on Walking Malvern area page.

Lunchbox at Great Malvern Priory runs October to April on alternate Thursday lunchtimes, 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm, with music or talk starting at 1 pm.

Malvern French Film Centre – see current programme for the year, with March weekend special.

Autumn in Malvern Festival, mainly October, some of September. Music, talks, exhibitions and more.

The springs/well dressing takes place over the May Day weekend. See Spa info on Malvern Hills page for more background.

WestFest West Malvern’s annual all-dayer, first Saturday of July. Arts and crafts, food and drink, kids workshops, street theatre, loads of music.

 

Immediate area

Spring Garden ShowThree Counties Showground Just south of Malvern. Specific gardening, dogs, ponies, antiques, cars and such shows, plus the usual countryside types. RHS Malvern Spring Festival, in May (2020: 7th to 10th) is the first in the RHS gardening calendar. Malvern Autumn Show (Gardening and Food, 2020: 26th/27th Sept) rounds off the season. Also CountryTastic, indoor event day for kids up to 14, 2020: 9th April.

Flea fairs and antique fairs put on at the showground by B2B Events.

There are some leaflets (2009) on walks and cycle rides from Three Counties Showground. Please ask the Showground for these, to encourage them to do more on ‘sustainable tourism’. The showground also contains the National Collection of Perry Pear Trees.

Three Choirs Festival July/August classical music bash, orchestral as well as choral, with maybe a bit of jazz. The oldest musical festival in Europe (noted as a ‘yearly Musical Assembly’ in 1719). Rotates between Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester. 2020: Worcester, 25th July to 1st August.

Colwall Ale House Festival A village event with further activities during the week. Music and other entertainment, food and drink, arts and crafts. 2018: 30th June.

Welland Steam and Country Rally, Woodside Farm, Welland. 2019: 26th to 28th July. Phone 01531 890417 or 890762. Organised by Ross-on-Wye Steam Engine Society.

Worcestershire Literary Festival Events mainly in Worcester but some scattered across the county. 2018: 10th to 16th June.

West

Gregg's PitBig Apple Weekend. 2019: 12th/13th October. Celebrating the apple harvest and all things apple. Loads of events, around Much Marcle area and wider. There’s usually a bike ride on the Sunday along the Ledbury Cider Trail route .

Blossom time with The Big Apple, Usually first weekend in May (2019: Sunday/Monday 5th/6th May). Cider tasting at Putley Village Hall, cider and perry trials same weekend.

Daffodil Weekend at Kempley (web link daffs.org.uk doesn’t always work) – guided walks, teas etc. 2019: 23rd, 24th March. Also see walks info on Kempley Tardis.

Daffodil Weekend at Dymock. 2019: 30th/31st March. (Note that web info can be difficult to find.) Refreshments at Dymock parish hall 10am to 5pm. Also see Dymock Church website.

Oxenhall Daffodil Teas, south of Kempley. The weekend before or after Kempley. 2019: 16th/17th March.

There are various other events during the year at Eastnor Castle.

Ledbury Poetry Festival June/July. 2020: 3rd to 12th July.

NestFest at The Nest, Little Verzons Farm, Hereford Road, Ledbury HR8 2PZ (cafe and local produce). An opportunity to meet local food and drink producers and sample their wares, plus plenty of entertainment. 2020: 20th August.

Much Marcle Steam Rally Rye Meadows, Much Marcle. Includes steam ploughing. 2019: 20th/21st July, with local crafts and produce.

Hellens Manor is an interesting very old manor house, worth a visit by itself – historic but still a family home, in Much Marcle:

Hellens Garden Festival “passion for plants and the planet”. 2020: 13th/14th June.

North

Bromyard Folk Festival September. 2020: 10th to 13th.

Bromyard International Town Criers Festival on May Day bank holiday. 2018: 5th May.

Bromyard Gala 2019: 29th/30th June. Should have some steam attractions.

Nozstock Rowden Paddocks, Bromyard, HR7 4LS. 2020: 23rd to 26th July. A range of music, from bluegrass to electronica and beyond. “A festival built from a curious amalgamation of performance, art, electronic supersounds and good old-fashioned guitar-strumming and drum-bashing.”

Tenbury Wells Holly and Mistletoe Auctions, Tuesdays before Christmas. Phone 01584 810555. See Tenbury Mistletoe Festival site. Main date is usually first Saturday in December, National Mistletoe Day.

Tenbury Wells Applefest. 2019: 5th October. With street entertainment, crafts.

Worcester Beer, Cider & Perry Festival August. 2020: 13th to 15th.

Worcester Festival, August. 2020: 15th to 31st.

Worcester Music Festival September. 2019: 13th to 15th. Focus is on promoting local music, but with wider contributions too.

Worcestershire LitFest and Fringe.  2019: 9th to 15th June.

East

Upton-upon-Severn Folk Festival May Bank Holiday, 2020: 1st to 4th May.

Upton-upon-Severn Jazz Festival late June, 2020: 26th to 28th.

Upton Blues Festival July, 2020: 16th to 19th. In and around various pubs and streets, free!

Upton Sunshine Music Festival. August bank holiday. 2020: 28th to 30th. Mainly old rock and pop music?

Pershore Plum Festival Main event August Bank Holiday Monday, plus Farmers Market, Town Centre, 10am to 3pm. Also events throughout August. Contact 01386 565373.

Fladbury Walkabout (between Pershore and Evesham). Flower festival, refreshments, boat trips, music and more. 2019: 6th/7th July.

Asparagus Festival Events mainly at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton, east of Evesham, but also elsewhere, late May/early June.

Tewkesbury Medieval Festival 2020: 11th/12th July. Alternative web link.

South

Newent Onion Fayre takes over the centre of town for the day. The biggest single-day festival in Gloucestershire apparently – there’s music, exhibitions, entertainment, food and drink as well as onion related competitions and displays, etc. 2019: 14th September.

Linton Music Festival A village in between Newent and Ross has a music festival on the weekend nearest to midsummer day, in the grounds of the Alma Inn. 2020: 3rd to 5th July.

Ross-on-Wye Cider Festival at Broome Farm. August/September. 2020: 4th to 6th September. Due to popularity, book in advance, and/or check website for other possible summer weekend events at Broome Farm.

Ross-on-Wye Beer and Cider Festival . 2020: 8th/9th May.

Around Hereford and county

Borderlines Film Festival brings the best of international cinema to Herefordshire. 2020: 28th Feb to 15th March. At The Courtyard and venues in Ledbury, Ross, Gorsley and elsewhere in the county. Phone 01432 344039.

Herefordshire Festival of Walking – if problems with that link, try Visit Herefordshire, or the Facebook page. 2019 has unfortunately been cancelled, fingers crossed for 2020.

Beer on the Wye, a Hereford Camra event, featuring local cider and perry too. 2019: 5th to 7th July. Riverside Marquee at Hereford Rowing Club, Hereford, HR4 0BE, with camping available ‘next door’.

Down on the Farm Music Festival Run by Gwatkin Cider, at Abbeydore, in August.

Wye Valley River Festival, first ran in 2014, Hereford to Chepstow. “A river carnival with a theatrical twist”. Every two years – 2020: 2nd to 17th May. Facebook page.

Wye Valley Chamber Music runs some events in Hereford, St Briavels (near Forest of Dean), Much Marcle (Hellens) in September. The connected Winter Chamber Music Festival (2020: 15th to 23rd February) has been going since 2000. Wye Valley (St Briavels) Music Society calendar may be worth checking out, too.

Herefordshire Art Week, September. 2019: 7th to 15th. Likely to include various galleries/displays in Ledbury; Blue Ginger gallery near Cradley; others with jewellery, furniture, ceramics. (For galleries in Malvern, see our Creative Malvern page.)

Leominster Apple Fair 2018: 20th October. The Priory, Church Road, Leominster. See Marcher Apple Network.

Wyastone Summer Series (June/July). The home of Nimbus Records, the concert hall hosts classical and other music. We understand that it is a fantastic setting near the Wye. Near Monmouth.

Ludlow

Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival, 2019: 13th to 15th September. There’s a connected foodie walk – Magnalonga in August (2019: 11th) – an 8 mile walk through the countryside surrounding Ludlow with a course of food at each stop (vegetarian option on request).

Ludlow Green Festival 2019: 14th July.

Ludlow Castle Medieval Christmas Fayre 2020: 28th and 29th November.
