Music festivals in the area include Autumn in Malvern, Elgar Festival, The Big Chill (Eastnor Castle Deer Park, west), Bromyard Folk Festival (north), Wyeside Music Festival (Hereford, west), Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival (around Hereford), Three Choirs, the various Upton and Cheltenham events, Wychwood Festival (Cheltenham), Linton Music Festival (south). Music at The Lamb, West Malvern. Various (local) bands on Friday and Saturday nights, "Open Mike" more informal sessions on Thursdays, acoustic night on Tuesdays. Phone 01684 577847.

Music at The Wyche Inn - not sure which evening(s) it is now.

Music at Mount Pleasant Hotel, Bellevue Terrace, Wednesday 9 to 10.30pm, Sunday 4 to 6.30pm. Phone 01684 561837.

Open mike at The Great Malvern Hotel, Graham Road, on Tuesday nights, set up by Neil Collins. See their Facebook page.

West Malvern Music Session at West Malvern Social Club, 145 West Malvern Road, every Sunday, 9 to 11pm. Acoustic music of all kinds and standards.

Abbey Jazz Fortnightly jazz sessions on Sunday nights at Malvern Rugby Club, Spring Lane, from 8pm. Small band sessions focus on the ‘swing’ era of the 1930s and 40.

Over in Ledbury, The Retreat pub/bar has live music Tuesdays (open mic night) and Thursdays (band spot), plus from Nov 2009 Sunday afternoon open session 4pm to 6pm.

From July 2010, The Swan at Newlands (owned by same people as top Malvern pubs Nags Head and Chase Inn) has professional and open mic sessions on the first Sunday of the month, from 5pm. Jazz, blues, folk. Phone 01886 832224.

Flatworld "Rich compelling melodies and tight driving rhythm, Flatworld play an eclectic mix of music from Eastern Europe and France."

Harpsong (Jonathan Penley) music is based on celtic roots, playing celtic harp, piano accordion, guitar, reed organ and penny whistle.

Nonimus "Trio of colourful costumed minstrels with period instruments and baskets full of English and European music from the 12th to 17th centuries."

The Pewke Band for anyone who wants faithful revivals of Rock and Blues from the late sixties to the mid seventies.

Classical

English Symphony Orchestra puts on a range of concerts, from full orchestra to quartet, in Malvern and surrounding areas. Less Malvern based than it used to be, though.

Malvern Concert Club put on "international standard classical chamber music concerts" at Malvern Theatre.

The Grove is a small venue in a large house in Great Malvern (8 Avenue Road) featuring acoustic music every now and then.

Huntingdon Hall Folk and other music in the centre of Worcester, also runs Swan Theatre.

Worcester Arts Workshop in the city centre. Various kinds of performance such as poetry, theatre and music, and new Jan 2010, The Splendid Cinema screening arthouse films.

Ledbury Market Theatre Less of a 'professional' venue than the others here, but in a good way! Ledbury Film Club second Friday of the month.

The Courtyard Theatre Centre for the arts in Hereford. Folk and other music, dance, theatre and more.
