Good value, seriously enjoyable cycling breaks organised by experienced and friendly cyclists

We have been running cycling holidays in France since the early '90s.

Every year, there are two weeks run back to back, based at two separate venues in seriously hilly parts. The views are breathtaking (and so are some of the downhills), the food filling and fantastic (vegetarians and carnivores catered for) with the emphasis on cycling enjoyment, but expect some hard pedalling at times. The bike rides are generally in the 50-90 kilometres (30-55 miles) range, and you can go at your own pace. The organiser(s) usually comes along on the rides too.

We stay in carefully selected gîtes - fully furnished and equipped holiday apartments. The group size on each cycle tour will be approximately 10 to 15 people.

Cycling in France in June 2008

Map of areaFrom 7th to 14th June 2008, the Tour du Luberon costs £550 and will be based in a 4-star gite in the hamlet of Croagnes near the village of St Saturnin-les-Apt in the Calavon valley between the southern edge of the Vaucluse plateau and the Montagne du Luberon.

On top of the Vaucluse plateau is the reknown mountain of Mont Ventoux, which is rightly considered with respect and trepidation by even the hardiest Tour de France cyclist.

From the 14th to 21st June 2008, the Tour de Tricastin costs £450 and will be based in six apartments which are 1 or 2 star gites in the village of Vinsobres near the Tricastin, a region of low hills between Mont Ventoux and the Rhône valley with many Roman remains and large Chateaux and known locally for its wines. Nearby are the Baronnies and Drôme Provençale regions of gorges and small mountain ridges.

On each of the tours we will be staying in a gite, which consists of fully furnished and equipped holiday apartments. The group size on each tour will be 8 to 15 people.

Recommended travel to the tours is by Eurostar train from St Pancras station to Lille and changing onto a TGV train to Avignon, then by road to the gite.

Map of FranceYou can put your partly dismantled bike in a bag and take it with you on the trains or your bike can be transported by van.

The daily routes are usually of 50-90 kilometres (30-55 miles) long on roads over terrain that is often mountainous and arduous and while they are optional, you and your bike should be capable of cycling over them.
