A chance to enjoy the natural and cultural delights of the countryside and towns on and around the Malvern Hills, easily accessible in the Heart of England (and also in reach of Welsh border country).

Our take on interesting developments
-
Apparently there is a new website called From the Malverns which has photos of the area with 'then and now' images. I say 'apparently' as it is in/requires Silverlight, the little loved Microsoft add-on, (I'd rather not have to install it especially). My informant says it can take some time to load, although he does like the site.

More interesting connections with community-owned village shops: Eardisland (see Black and White Village Trail) is getting support to open its community shop in the ground floor of the fascinating restored dovecote building - picture of that on our Dovecotes page.

Nothing to do with Malvern, but fun to see family history connect with my interest/work in community and environment. News that The Seavingtons in Somerset have got funds to develop a community-owned village shop - the home of my mother's maternal grandfather. Cwm Clydach, and Tonypandy, a community in the South Wales coal valleys has had approval for its micro-hydro generation project - where her father grew up (and initially worked down the mines).

A new cycle trail takes in places with significance to the poet John Masefield, but also extends from Ledbury as far as Lowbands, the Chartist village just south east of the Malverns. A nicely produced little leaflet, although I'd have tweaked the route slightly (e.g. more Lowbands!). Available from Ledbury TIC.

There's a webcam on the construction work for the new community hospital across the other side of Link Common from MalvernTrail Towers. (It missed all the pile driving fun in the first couple of weeks, but heard clearly here.)

MalvernTrail put together a bike ride complete with recommended lunch pub and cycle hire for a bakers-dozen sized family group, celebrating an 80th birthday. An enjoyable event by all accounts, despite a strong wind, and the route is captured on GPS. We're looking to develop more possibilities, so if you want to have a good time on a bike in the Malvern area, do get in touch! (Info on About us page)
